Shona is an artist blacksmith at the peak of her career who credits the British Artist Blacksmiths Association (BABA) for fostering her development as an artist over the past 30 years. Coming from an agricultural background, natural forms, have been a constant source of inspiration in Shona’s work: the organic forms of plants & seed pods and the aesthetic appeal of the landscape have construed themselves as a fascination with curving, bulbous forms and sinuous line. Shona enjoys in particular the use of large or heavy sections, manipulating a material commonly thought of as unyielding with relative ease. Her design approach has grown within the framework of the collaboration that is Ratho Byres Forge, giving her a very open and broad philosophy. “The creative talent I have discovered through metalwork has changed my perception of the environment – “seeing” is now a far more conscious activity, enjoying all the tiny details of the world around me, nature, architecture and my own work.” We are really pleased that she has agreed to be one of the Master designer/makers of the bandstand panels.
