CPD Webinar – Procurement: Delivering the Conservation of Ironwork

Event Description

What is this event about?

This is a training webinar providing practical advice.

Team efforts to deliver conservation projects can – and should – be a rewarding, collaborative experience, driven by a shared aim.  But often it can end up turning into more of a battle, with different parties fighting their own corner, and the shared aim gets lost.  This webinar will provide practical advice on how to navigate the procurement process.  From surveying the metalwork and preparing contract-documents to finding and engaging the right contractor, this lunchtime CPD webinar will:

  • Describe the process of procuring ironwork conservation
  • Help you understand the aims and intentions of the parties
  • Describe some pitfalls and how to avoid them
  • Give some tips on how to promote good practice

We shall unpick the sometimes daunting process of procuring the conservation of heritage ironwork – although most of the principles will also apply to other historic materials.

Who is it for?

Employers, architects, surveyors, contractors, craftspeople will all find this webinar of interest and value.

Who is leading it?

Geoff Wallis is a consultant specialising in historic metalwork and machinery. His vast experience comes from his position as Managing Director of Dorothea Restoration Engineers Ltd, of which he was a founder. For over thirty years he managed complex engineering and metalwork restoration contracts valued at £1 million plus on sites throughout the UK. In this role he learned how to cope with not only the complexities of restoration work on sites, but also sometimes hostile contractual practices.
