Andrew Rowe is a designer, sculptor, artist and creator based in south west Wales and has been working to commission since 1989. Following studies in restoration and environmental sculpture at Dyfed School of Art and the Artist Blacksmithing degree at Farnham, he travelled extensively as a journeyman in former Czechoslovakia, Germany and America gaining invaluable experience with distinguished craftsmen and designers. He has since spent several years sharing those experiences and passing on the knowledge as a part time lecturer at both Hereford College of Art and Carmarthenshire School of Art. Over the years Andrew has built a career and gained a reputation for his meticulously researched design and quality of his work within the Public Art sector with works located in many parts of the UK. City centre sculptures and bespoke street furniture have been of particular interest and feature frequently in his extensive portfolio. He places very strong emphasis on the design aspect of all projects and often works with the power of simple line and balanced proportion to achieve visual impact, avoiding fuss and clutter wherever possible. He has been recognised with the title Master Blacksmith and awarded the Silver medal by the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths.
“Melody” the proposed design for BathIron is the result of Andrew visualising and depicting what a short moment in a piece of music might look like. A complex arrangement of notes, dancing and mingling with each other resulting in an explosion of emotions for the listener.
