Event Description

Half-day workshop hosted by Gloucester City Council

Led by Geoff Wallis

10:00am Introduction to the Conservation, Care and Repair of Historic Ironwork

No specific codes of practice existed relating to ironwork until the NHIG developed the Conservation Principles for Heritage Forged and Cast Ironwork.  The principles set a standard of practice for those who provide advice, make decisions about or undertake work on heritage forged and cast iron work, not only practioners and specifiers but also owners, managers and custodians.

11:00am Practical Session

Looking at some examples of wrought and cast ironwork to see the difference, looking at how it can corrode, some examples of repairs and how to approach the replacement of lost ironwork, typically railings and balconies.

12:30pm Lunch (light lunch and refreshments provided)
